Indonesia's Consumer Confidence Index Remains Positive Despite Minor Decline
6 months ago

A recent survey conducted by Indonesia's central bank indicates a slight weakening in consumer confidence regarding the nation's economic conditions in February, although an overall optimistic outlook persists. Indonesia's Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) measured at 126.4, a decrease from January's 127.2, as reported by Bank Indonesia on Tuesday.

This index serves as a critical barometer for consumers' outlook on the economy, remaining above the pivotal 100-mark, which indicates that optimism still outweighs pessimism. Particularly within the demographic of respondents aged between 20 and 30 years, there continues to be a significant sense of optimism about their current income levels, job availability, and the potential for purchasing durable goods.

The optimism level is notably high within this age group, according to Bank Indonesia. Additionally, the Current Economic Condition Index (CECI) and the Consumer Expectation Index (CEI) contributed positively to the consumer confidence trend for the month. The CECI rose to 114.2 from 113.5 in the preceding month, showcasing an improving perception of current economic conditions.

However, the CEI saw a decline, falling from 140.8 to 138.7, highlighting mixed feelings about future economic expectations. This data reflects significant insights into the economic psyche of Indonesian consumers, indicating that while there are some concerns, the majority of individuals remain hopeful about the economic landscape moving forward..
