The technology sector faced setbacks as well, with Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) shedding 0.6%. In financial markets, Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dipped 0.5%, with Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) down by 1.6%, contrasting with its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), which rose 1.6%. Crude oil prices saw a lift of 0.6%, while the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.2%.
Natural gas followed suit with a slight increase of 0.1%, yet the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell by 0.4%. In commodities, gold prices declined by 0.7% on Comex, with SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) losing 1%. Silver, meanwhile, experienced a modest rise of 0.3%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) eased by 0.1%.
The consumer sector witnessed subtle shifts, with Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) easing slightly. Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also lower. In the discretionary sector, Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 1.6%. The retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) edged down 0.1%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 1.2%.
The health care sector saw a decline as well, with Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) down 1.1%. iShares US Healthcare (IYH) shed 1.2%, and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) fell past 1%. Finally, iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dropped 1.6%, indicating overall weakness in multiple sectors.
