Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV experienced declines. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) saw a decrease of 0.4%. US equity indexes also fell after data indicated that the US Producer Price Index rose by 0.2% in October, an increase from the 0.1% observed in September. In the energy sector, iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) dipped 0.1%, while Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was fractionally lower.
In technology, the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) edged down 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also recorded declines. Notably, SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) shed 0.4%, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) rose by 0.5%. In the financial sector, Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was lower by 0.1%.
The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) declined by 0.6%, while its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), increased by 0.5%. In commodities, crude oil prices dropped by 0.4%, whereas the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.4%. Natural gas prices fell by 4.9%, with the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slumping 5%.
On the precious metals front, gold decreased by 0.5% on Comex, with SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) also dipping 0.1%. Silver prices fell by 0.2%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) gained 0.7%. In consumer sectors, the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) increased by 0.3%, alongside Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK).
Conversely, the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) eased by 0.6%; the retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) dropped by 0.4%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose 0.5%. In health care, Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) lost 0.7%, with iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also in decline.
The IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell by 1.1%. In industrial sectors, Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 1.4%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also showed lower numbers..
