Market Overview: Mixed Trends in US Equity and ETF Performance

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM fell 0.6%, while IVV rose 0.3%. The actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) experienced a 0.8% increase. US equity indexes displayed mixed performance ahead of anticipated Big-Tech earnings after the market closes on Tuesday, as most government bond yields climbed following September's job openings and consumer confidence data. In the energy sector, iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 1.3%, and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) dropped 1.5%. In technology, Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 1.3%, while iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) added 1.2% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) increased by 1.3%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 1.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 1.8%. In the financial sector, Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dipped 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) lost 0.5%, while its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), rose by 0.7%. Crude oil experienced a decline of 0.2%, with the United States Oil Fund (USO) down 1.2%.

Natural gas shed 1.4%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) increased by 0.9%. Gold saw an uplift of 0.9% on Comex, with SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rising by 1%. Silver increased by 1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 1.8%. In consumer sectors, Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) dropped 0.5%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also in the red.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 0.5% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) fell by 0.5%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 0.9%. In healthcare, Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.1%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) had mixed results, with the latter trending lower.

iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) decreased by 0.6%. In industrials, Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose by 0.1%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) saw a fractional increase, while iShares US Industrials (IYJ) dropped 0.2%..
