US equity indexes saw a downturn as rising government bond yields drew investors' focus to the upcoming dot plot, particularly dampening risk sentiment after a significant rally from Broadcom ($AVGO). In the energy sector, the iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) dipped by 0.3%, and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) registered a 0.2% decline.
Meanwhile, the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dropped 0.4%. Both iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also in negative territory. However, the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) rose by 1%, and the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) gained 1.9%. The financial sector saw the Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) decrease by 0.2%.
The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 0.6%, while its bearish counterpart, the Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), saw an increase of 1%. In commodities, crude oil prices climbed by 1.6%, with the United States Oil Fund (USO) adding 1.5%. Natural gas experienced a downturn of 4.9%, with the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) seeing a loss of 5.7%.
Gold prices fell by 1.2% on the Comex, and the SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) declined by 0.9%. Silver also dropped, losing 2%, while the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell by 1.4%. Consumer-related ETFs were mixed, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) shedding 0.1%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) also fell by 0.1%, while the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods ETF (IYK) was down 0.2%.
The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was marginally lower, with retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) also declining. In the healthcare sector, the Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) saw a slight increase, though iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were both declining.
