Likewise, US stock futures showed a slight upward trend, with S&P 500 Index futures increasing by 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures also rising by 0.1%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.3% prior to the commencement of regular trading. Investors awaited significant economic reports with the international trade in goods and services bulletin set to be released at 8:30 am ET, followed by the ISM services index for October at 10 am ET. In the cryptocurrency sector, bitcoin increased by 2.2%, complemented by a 2.3% rise in the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF ($BITO). In the technology sector, the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) saw a 0.4% rise, and the iShares US Technology ETF ($IYW) increased marginally by 0.03%.
In contrast, the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ($IGM.US) rose by 0.2%, whereas the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ($XSD) was down by 0.4%. Comparatively, the iShares Semiconductor ETF ($SOXX) managed to lift by 0.4%. Among the notable stocks, Marqeta ($MQ) shares were down nearly 39% in Tuesday's premarket following the announcement of a Q3 net loss late Monday.
In the industrial sector, the Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ($XLI), Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ($VIS), and iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) remained inactive. However, Timken ($TKR) stock fell by 5.2% after reporting lower Q3 adjusted earnings and net sales. Turning to consumer stocks, the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ($XLP) ticked down by 0.02%, while Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund ($VDC) remained inactive.
The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ($IYK) was also inactive, with the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ($XLY) gaining 0.3%. The VanEck Retail ETF ($RTH) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ($XRT) showed no activity. Ferrari ($RACE) shares decreased by 3.2% in pre-bell trading after posting lower-than-expected Q3 net revenue. In the energy sector, while the iShares US Energy ETF ($IYE) was inactive, the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ($XLE) climbed by 0.1%.
Marathon Petroleum ($MPC) stock rose by 2.9% ahead of Tuesday's opening bell after reporting forecast-beating Q3 adjusted earnings and revenue. Regarding health care, the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ($XLV) advanced by 0.2%, although the Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ($VHT), iShares US Healthcare ETF ($IYH), and iShares Biotechnology ETF ($IBB) showed no activity.
Fresenius Medical Care ($FME) stock increased by 1.7% premarket, reporting higher Q3 earnings. In the financials domain, the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) edged up by 0.04%. The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ($FAS.US) grew by 0.3%, while its opposing Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ($FAZ) was down 0.1%.
Broadridge Financial Solutions ($BR) shares dropped by 1.4% pre-bell following a report of lower fiscal Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue. Commodity markets showed mixed movements, with front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil rising by 0.6% to settle at $71.92 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Natural gas dipped 0.6% to $2.76 for every million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 0.4%, whereas the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell by 0.1%. Gold futures for December advanced by 0.1% to $2,749.50 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures gained 0.3%, reaching $32.72 an ounce.
