Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV experienced gains, while the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) saw a modest rise of 0.1%. On Friday, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached intraday records after midday trading, with the Nasdaq also gaining 0.1%, recovering from earlier losses.
Government bond yields displayed mixed performances, and crude oil futures faced a significant drop. In the energy sector, iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) recorded an increase of 0.1%, and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was up by 0.2%. In technology, however, the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.2%, while both iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) experienced declines.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) eased 0.2%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) saw a more pronounced drop of 1.1%. Turning to financials, the Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 1.1%, and Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) advanced by 2.8%. In contrast, its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), fell by 2.8%. In the commodities market, crude oil prices fell by 2.6%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) saw a decline of 2.1%.
Natural gas prices dropped 1.2%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) lost 1.5%. Gold prices fell 0.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) decreased by 0.6%. Silver prices saw a decline of 1.2%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dropped by 1.9%. In consumer sectors, the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 1.2%, with both Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) climbing.
The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose by 1.4%, with the retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) gaining 0.3%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) fell by 0.6%. In the health care segment, the Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose by 1%, with both iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also climbing.
The iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) increased by 0.4%. In industrials, the Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose by 1.2%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) both gained..
