Market Updates: Tech Gains and Mixed Equity Performance

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV experienced upward movement. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) saw an increase of 1.3%. US equity indexes displayed mixed tendencies after midday on Monday, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average underperformed relative to the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite, driven by gains in the technology and consumer discretionary sectors. In the energy sector, iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both faced declines of approximately 1.4%.

On the technology front, Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) advanced by 0.5%, while iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also showed positive results. Additionally, SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) improved by 0.7%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) increased by 1.8%. In financials, Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell by 0.2%.

Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) went up by 0.2%, whereas its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), saw a dip of 0.2%. Reviewing commodities, crude oil prices decreased by 0.6%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) saw a reduction of 0.3%. Natural gas traded lower by 1.9%, with the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) experiencing a 2.2% loss.

Gold prices on Comex dropped by 0.2%, while SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 0.3%. Silver prices rose by 0.3%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed by 0.5%. In the consumer sector, Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) moved up by 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) added 0.5%, while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) saw a slight decline.

The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up by 1.3%, with retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) also rising. In health care, Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) saw a decrease of 0.3%, with iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also declining.

However, IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) increased by 1.1%. The industrial sector performed positively, with Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rising by 0.3%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also showed gains..
