In a significant move for national security, South Korea's Chief of National Assembly Affairs, Kim Min-ki, conducted a press conference on December 4, local time, to voice his strong opposition to the unconstitutional and illegal activities that transpired within the National Assembly building. He detailed the damages incurred and announced that, effective immediately, access to the National Assembly building will be strictly prohibited for Ministry of Defense personnel and police officers. Kim stressed that this decision is a critical step to ensure the safety of parliament members and maintain the operational integrity of the National Assembly.
"We must protect our democratic processes and the well-being of our members," he asserted. The Chief of National Assembly Affairs pointed out that a thorough evaluation of the physical and other damages stemming from the declaration of martial law will be conducted, with a commitment to hold accountable those responsible for any illegal actions.
He noted that preliminary reports indicate the incident has resulted in injuries among National Assembly personnel, and efforts to assess the number of injured individuals and the severity of their injuries are currently underway..
