Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV increased in value, with the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) also rising by 0.2%. US equity indexes experienced a rise after midday on Monday, driven by gains in most government bond yields as investors turned their attention to quarterly earnings from heavyweights in the index.
In the energy sector, the iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) saw a decline of 0.6%, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell approximately 0.7%. Technology stocks showed positivity with the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) up by 0.2%. The iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) also advanced by 0.2%, and the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) added 0.3%.
The SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) index was 1.3% higher, and the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) gained 0.1%. In the financial sector, the Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) experienced an increase of 1%. The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed by 2.9%, whereas its bearish counterpart, the Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), dropped by 2.8%.
In commodities, crude oil recorded a decline of 5.8%, with the United States Oil Fund (USO) dipping by 5.6%. Natural gas saw a reduction of 8.6%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell by 8.2%. Gold recorded a slight increase of 0.1% on Comex, with SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) also rising by 0.1%.
Silver added 0.7%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) had an identical increase of 0.7%. Consumer sector movements included the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) which was up 0.2%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also saw an increase.
The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) traded 0.6% higher with the retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rising 0.5%. Additionally, the SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 1.3%. In the health care domain, the Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 0.2%, and both iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and the Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) moved higher.
The iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) enjoyed a rise of 1%. For industrials, the Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) was up by 0.5%, as well as both Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ), which each saw increases of about 0.6%..
